-
Make
sure all of the information on your resume is correct and up to
date.
-
Include
at least two phone numbers with voice mail capability since numbers change often these
days. Label each phone number appropriately (Home, Cell, Pager,
etc...).
-
Limit
your resume to two pages by editing the text, font size, and
page margins as needed.
-
Put
your name and page number at the top of the second sheet (John Smith - Resume,
Page 2).
-
Make
sure to include an e-mail address on your resume. Free
accounts are available from Yahoo and
Hotmail.
-
Include
significant sales achievements such as "122% of quota
for 2004 and currently at 118% of plan year-to-date for 2005".
-
Send
your resume as a Microsoft Word™ document since this is the
corporate standard.
-
Keep
the formatting simple such as Bullet Points only. Do not use
boxes and borders as this makes it difficult to import the resume
(or copy the text) into other programs (such as databases) that a
recruiter or employer might use.
-
Print
your resume before you send it to anyone to verify that the
formatting does not result in any blank pages being printed (this
happens all the time).
-
When
sending your resume to a recruiter regarding a specific job
opportunity, always reference the job title and location or job code in the
Subject line.
-
On
your resume, please indicate which large metro area is
nearest your home. For example: if you list Bradenton, Florida as a home
address, the recruiter you send your resume to may live in Chicago
and not know that Bradenton is a suburb of Tampa (as opposed to
Miami or Jacksonville). This will save the recruiter time in
filing your resume and
will be much appreciated. Here is a good example of a resume
header format:
